According to traditional holiday lore, reindeer pull Santa's flying sleigh across the night sky bringing presents to good children. These reindeer were first named by Henry Livingston Jr., in 1823. And Clement Clarke's poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, better known as The Night Before Christmas. There were only eight reindeer listed in the original poem, known as Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Donder, Blitzen, Cupid and Comet. May, a writer at Montgomery Ward's Department store, to light up the road on a foggy Christmas Eve.
